About Shuddhabha
In 1996, I qualified as a Shiatsu practitioner with the Shiatsu College in Norwich, where I trained with Clifford Andrews. In the same year, I moved to Manchester to join the Bodywise team and set up our natural health centre. It is a real delight to be working with the same people after all this time and to still love treating clients with Shiatsu.
At Bodywise, I work in general practice. I treat women, men and children with a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. I see a lot of clients with chronic conditions and skeletal problems but my main interest is in women’s health.
I am particularly drawn to working with women during pregnancy and often see clients through the whole process. I run birth preparation sessions for women and their birth partners. Birthing is such an important time and everyone is different so I work in individual sessions guided by the client.
I teach practical hands-on techniques and supportive physical contact. The aim is to make the birth a good, safe experience for everyone. For some clients, I have been the birth partner myself.
I am a qualified Shiatsu teacher. I currently work for the Well Mother School in Bristol, teaching midwives Shiatsu skills and Shiatsu practitioners maternity care. I also work for the Shiatsu College Manchester training students to become Shiatsu practitioners and I am available for student supervision. In Spring 2010, I will be running the second day of a two day introduction to pregnancy for shiatsu practitioners, suitable for third year students onwards. See weekend events for further details.
I’m going to be teaching on the first year of the Shiatsu Practitioner Course from September so if you think you might be interested in becoming a Shiatsu practitioner, feel free to contact me at Bodywise and have a chat about it. Jane Lyons, the principal of the Shiatsu College in Manchester, is running an introductory weekend on 24/25 April in Didsbury, Manchester too; so that would give you a feel for what it is like to give Shiatsu. You can contact Jane on 0208 671 0909.
