Bisu Özyürek
Hi all, I’m Bisu ![]()
I am a trauma-informed yoga facilitator, researcher, and co-educator based in Manchester, with a background in Clinical Psychology (MSc). My work is rooted in the interconnectedness of different expressions of the self: mind, body, soul.
I am an advocate of staying true to yoga’s roots by questioning the internalized systems and patterns within ourselves. My intention is to open a gentle, self-paced space to be curious about how we are affected by the way we move.
Trauma-informed yoga is an embodied practice informed by research on the integration of trauma in clinical practice. I will add some academic literature for your interest at the end.
It centres choice, autonomy, and present-moment awareness, offering invitations to connect with movement, breath, and sensation—just as they are.
I use invitational language such as "if you like", "maybe", etc. as a way to emphasize that you’re in control over how you move your body during this practice. Emphasizing that everything is a choice. Exploring ways to reconnect with your own needs and responses, and what feels supportive for you.
This emphasis of choice has a therapeutic value. It offers an opportunity to empower you to make choices based on your present moment experiences. So that you can practice making choices that work for you, starting from “here and now”.
I personally don’t differentiate yoga from life, but rather believe in the interconnectedness of how each influences the other. I believe humans *are* nature, containing that inner essence of wisdom within themselves.
Rather than focusing on performance or flexibility, these sessions are an opportunity to reconnect with your body’s own rhythm and intelligence, however that may look on a given day.
Drawing from psychology, movement, embodiment, creative expression, and trauma-informed practice, I bring my playful, creative and sincere energy into the space. I’m looking forward to the presence and authenticity you will bring with you ![]()
Sessions are open to all levels and queer-friendly, with an emphasis on accessibility, autonomy, and meeting yourself where you are.
