NeuroAffective Touch® Therapy

NeuroAffective Touch® with Nadia Miller
A gentle, body-based approach to healing emotional trauma

NeuroAffective Touch® is a pioneering therapeutic approach that brings together the power of touch and the depth of psychotherapy. It was developed by Dr Aline LaPierre – psychotherapist, bodyworker and founder of the NeuroAffective Touch® Institute – and bridges the gap between traditional talk therapy and hands-on bodywork.

Why is that important?

Because our earliest experiences of connection and safety are non-verbal. Long before we have words, we learn about the world through our bodies – most often through attuned, caring and nurturing touch. When those early needs aren’t fully met, it can result in developmental or relational trauma that we carry through our lives. And talking alone can’t always reach the parts of us that have been shaped by those early embodied experiences.

How does NeuroAffective Touch® therapy work?

NeuroAffective Touch® works gently and respectfully with the body’s non-verbal memory. It uses intentional, polyvagal-informed touch to support emotional regulation, increase self-awareness and help rewire old patterns of disconnection.

It integrates principles from somatic psychotherapy, attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology to support lasting change at the root level.

This work can be especially helpful if you:

  • Feel disconnected from your body or emotions
  • Have a history of relational or developmental trauma
  • Struggle with trust or feeling safe in connection
  • Have already begun a somatic journey (for example through Somatic Experiencing®) and want to go deeper

Sessions with Nadia
During your first appointment, we’ll carry out an intake assessment to make sure NeuroAffective Touch® therapy is the right approach for you.
Previous work with Somatic Experiencing® can be a helpful foundation, but it’s by no means essential.

I am currently training in NeuroAffective Touch® and, as a foundation year graduate, am listed on the Institute’s directory of therapists. I bring to this work a deep understanding of trauma, nervous system regulation, and somatic awareness, both through ongoing professional development and through my personal practice.
