Hannah Mackay MRSS(T)

I have been practising shiatsu since 1997, and I am registered with the Shiatsu Society. I practise Shiatsu at Bodywise in the city centre on Wednesdays and in Chorlton, South Manchester, on other days. I also teach with the Shiatsu College Manchester and run shiatsu workshops for beginners and practitioners.

I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, and I have also completed specialist training in using shiatsu in maternity care (more information below).

Would you like to:

  • feel more relaxed and peaceful?
  • be more in touch with your energy, dynamism and vitality?
  • be more connected with your emotions?
  • maintain your health and well-being?
  • feel more comfortable in your body by releasing pain and tension?

Shiatsu can help in all these ways and more! In shiatsu, we work with meridians, acupressure points, muscles and joints, to enable your Qi (energy) to come into a dynamic balance. This can help to resolve symptoms and benefit the body, emotions, mind and spirit. It also feels great!

My background is in academic research (psychotherapy and complementary medicine). My qualifications include Diploma in Shiatsu (British School of Shiatsu-Do); Postgraduate Diploma in Shiatsu (Shiatsu College), Diploma in Holistic Care in pregnancy, birth and babyhood (Wellmother); BA (Hons) Psychology (University of Sheffield); PhD Psychology (University of Leeds).

I am supportive, caring and creative, and I bring my commitment, experience and curiosity to my practice.

Shiatsu in maternity care
Are you looking for:

  • a relaxing, effective treatment which is safe during pregnancy?
  • natural alternatives around labour and birth?
  • a quiet space to connect with yourself and your baby?

Shiatsu can help in all these ways and more during pregnancy!
Baby overdue? Shiatsu has been shown to increase the chance of going into labour spontaneously. (according to research by Ingram, Domagala and Yates (2005)).

I have completed a specialist training in using shiatsu during maternity care (www.wellmother.org) . Shiatsu is a safe, relaxing and effective treatment which is appropriate throughout pregnancy, as well as in labour and the postnatal period. I will choose suitable techniques for you – these are likely to be particularly gentle during the first three to four months of pregnancy.

Shiatsu can be used during the birth process – I offer sessions for you and your birth partner to learn points and techniques for labour.
