Paul Betesh
I started practicing yoga as a teenager in the 1980s and now have over 25 years of teaching experience. Over the years I have studied various schools of yoga, meditation and shamanism, including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Somatics, Restorative, Yin, Vipassana and over the last 20 years or so I have been privileged to work closely with Donna Farhi. In my classes I aim to share some of the gems that I have learned along the way.
Classes explore yoga in its broader sense blending inspiring talks, discussions, guided meditation and asana (or postures). We will practice a range of somatic and restorative ground based postures, standing postures and dynamic flow in order to find stability, comfort and ease in the body. We will focus on the breath as the bridge between both the various body systems and the conscious and unconscious and also to foster the unrestricted flow of prana (or life force) in the body. You will find a safe supportive space where we can explore and let go without judgement.
We will practice accessing deeper states of awareness, staying present and grounded in the here and now and learning to come home to ourselves to find greater peace of mind, both on and off the yoga mat. Through yoga we can build resilience to life’s challenges and courage to face, own and honour difficult emotions whilst also being more open to the joys of life on this incredible planet!
All poses are optional and I will encourage you to honour your internal perceptions empowering you to build your own functional, integrated living practice that is suited to your own unique make up, rather than following a generic rigid formula or focusing on external image.
I will always endeavour to take a light and humorous approach, not because I am not sincere but because I have found that when we bring ease and joy into our practice it allows us to go deeper without making it harder than it needs to be.
My approach may be philosophical and spiritual but i do not promote any religion or dogmatic beliefs.
